  About the Institution
Thompson Rivers University is located in Kamloops, British Columbia and was founded in 1970 as Cariboo College, operating out of the Kamloops Indian Residential School. Initially, it was a transfer college, but in 1989 it became a university college, and in 2005 gained its current name and became a university in its own right.

It currently has more than 25,000 students at its campuses - in Kamloops and Williams Lake - and through distance, online and Open Learning platforms. This includes more than 3,500 international students from over 100 countries. It offers over 140 on-campus and 60-plus Open Learning programs, including co-op work terms, undergraduate research and field schools.

The TRU Library has a collection of over 400,000 books, journals, and multimedia items. It also provides access to numerous online databases, study spaces, and research support. The University has a full-service fitness center, indoor and outdoor sports facilities, intramural sports, and recreational programs. Students are encouraged to walk via the hiking trails dotted around campus. The student services available are plentiful, with academic advising, counselling, health services, disability services, and career services. There are various eateries on campus and even a pub for students to unwind in. The Performing Arts Center at the University hosts concerts, theatrical performances, and other cultural events.

Kamloops is Canada's Tournament Capital. There are world-class sports facilities here as Kamloops hosts more than 100 tournaments yearly in venues such as the Tournament Capital Centre, Kamloops Bike Ranch, etc. A scenic area populated with students, the locals are friendly, and there are plenty of museums and leisurely activities to enjoy.

  Student Life
Thompson Rivers University’s campuses are traditional lands of the Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc and the T’exeke within Secwepemcúlucw, the traditional and unceded territory of the Secwépemc. It’s a scenic area with lots of outdoor recreation available, while Kamloops is known as the Tournament Capital of Canada, hosting more than 100 tournaments a year. There are several student support programs in place at Thompson Rivers University. This includes Student Mentorship and Leadership, where students can volunteer to act as peer mentors for fellow students. There are over 70 student clubs available at the University.

Thompson Rivers University offers on-campus housing for students in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada, in residences called "The Rez" that offer apartment-style living in two towers. The accommodation is available to domestic and international students, and applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

The apartment typically has four private bedrooms, a shared kitchen, a living room, and a bathroom. The rooms come fully furnished with a twin XL bed, desk, chair, and closet. Utilities, including internet and cable, are included in the rental fee. A fitness center, study rooms, laundry facilities, and a 24-hour front desk are all offered as amenities.
