  About the Institution
The University of Winchester is located close to the south coast of the UK in the scenic South Downs. A cathedral city, Winchester achieved university status in 2008 and currently has around 7,500 students enrolled.

Following the National Student Survey, Winchester ranked 4th in England for overall satisfaction. Rated by final year undergraduate students, there is 100% overall satisfaction in University of Winchester courses in American Studies, Archaeology, Business Management, Choreography and Dance, Digital Media Design, Digital Media Development, Education Studies (Early Childhood), Event Management, Health Community and Social Care Studies, History and the Medieval World, History and the Modern World, Media Production, Media Studies, and Politics and Global Studies.

The culture of the University is informal, with an emphasis on providing a supportive community for students through the promotion of start-up businesses and social entrepreneurship, as well as personal support in student study and life. Winchester has had a significant amount of development in recent years, with work on brand-new accommodation and an award-winning student union, which achieved one of the best rankings in the National Student Survey.

The University of Winchester acceptance rate is 45%, and critical University of Winchester rankings include Silver in the Teaching Excellence Framework.

  Location
The University of Winchester campus is located within walking distance of the centre of the city of Winchester, one hour from London. It is an ancient cathedral city and was chosen by Alfred the Great to be the capital of the kingdom of Wessex. It is also steeped in Arthurian myth, with the castle containing the legendary Round Table of King Arthur. In the present day, the city has a strong cultural scene, particularly stemming from a literary heritage. There are also numerous pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes, leading to a lively social scene at all hours.   Find on Map

  Student Life
International students have access to special services which include pre-arrival advice and an international induction programme, including an airport pickup service and workshops on life, study and culture in the UK. Student support advisers can be seen at any time for help with academic and related personal issues. The University also runs an organisation through the Student Union which aims to help integrate international students into life at Winchester.

The University of Winchester guarantees international students a place in University accommodation for the duration of their studies. Winchester offers accommodation both on and off campus, with private rented housing also available. There are almost 1,500 beds in total, many of which are en suite, with self catering options also available. The former are generally arranged as student villages or small flats of about six students to a kitchen, while the latter are more traditional halls of residence with corridors containing shared bathrooms and kitchenettes.

  Scholarships
(1) Scholarship Name Chevening Scholarships
Academic Year - 2024
Nationality International
Chevening Scholarships enable outstanding emerging leaders from all over the world to pursue one-year master’s degrees in the UK. Whilst there is no ‘typical’ Chevening Scholar, we are looking for the kind of people who have the passion, ideas, and influence to provide the solutions and leadership needed to create a better future.

Because these scholarships are fully-funded (flights, accommodation, and course fees are all included), you are free to focus on achieving your professional goals and maximising the experience of a lifetime. You will live and study in the UK for a year, during which time you will develop professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture, and build lasting positive relationships with the UK. On completing your studies, you will leave the UK equipped with the knowledge and networks necessary to bring your own ideas to life.

This section of the website contains all of the information you need in order to successfully submit an application. We encourage you to review it fully in order to ensure that you have the best possible chance of being selected for an award.

Eligibility
To be eligible for a Chevening Scholarship you must:

Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory.

Return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after your award has ended.

Have completed all components of an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain entry onto a postgraduate programme at a UK university by the time you submit your application. This is typically equivalent to an upper second-class 2:1 honours degree in the UK but may be different depending on your course and university choice.

Have at least two years (equivalent to 2,800 hours) of work experience.

Apply to three different eligible UK university courses and have received an unconditional offer from one of these choices by the deadline listed on the application timeline.

You are not eligible for a Chevening Scholarship if you:

Hold British or dual British citizenship (unless you are a citizen of a British Overseas Territory or hold BN(O) and are applying from Hong Kong).

Hold refugee status in a non-Chevening eligible country. Applicants who are citizens of a Chevening-eligible country and who hold refugee status in a Chevening-eligible country are eligible for a scholarship.

Are an employee, a former employee, or relative* of an employee of His Majesty’s Government, or have been within the last two years from the opening of Chevening applications (including the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, all British Embassies/High Commissions, the Home Office, the Ministry of Defence, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, the Department for International Trade and the UKVI), the British Council, a sponsoring UK university, or a staff member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.

Employees, former employees, or relatives* of an employee of Chevening Partner organisations are eligible to apply, but if the employment took place within the last two years, you cannot receive a Chevening Partner Award from the organisation from which you work, previously worked, or are affiliated with through relatives.

Have previously studied in the UK with funding from a UK Government-funded scholarship.

Having a master’s degree does not prevent you from applying for a Chevening Award to study for a second master’s degree in the UK, as long as you can clearly explain why it will help you fulfil your career plan to influence positive change in your home country.
