  About the Institution
Colorado State University was founded in 1870 as the Colorado Agricultural College before becoming the State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts. 1957 the Colorado General Assembly approved the change to its current name and it became a university. Today it has around 35,000 students a year including 2,500 international students from 110 countries around the world.

It has ranked just outside the top 400 universities globally in the QS World University Rankings and into the top 400 in the Times Higher Education rankings. Within the USA it has been ranked in the top 250 by Forbes and just outside the top 150 by US News & World Report. Washington Monthly rated it the top university in Colorado and 91st in the country.

More than $1.6 billion has been invested in the campus at Colorado State University in the past 10 years. This has created new and improved facilities such as a brand new medical center, a new campus stadium and a renovated Lory Student Center.

  Location
Colorado State University is based in Fort Collins, which was ranked as the third-best college town to live in forever by College Ranker. There are more than 285 miles of bike routes and trails in Fort Collins, which gets more than 300 sunny days every year.

  Student Life
Leadership Skills
The President’s Leadership Program offers student leaders an additional 14 hours of leadership development skills as part of their studies. This focuses on areas such as optimism, service to others, passion, mindfulness and fairness.

City Life
Fort Collins is a fantastic student area in Northern Colorado. In a historic town with a rich architectural history and vintage shops, students enjoy a mix of old-town culture and contemporary nightlife experiences. The Fort Collins Museum of Discovery is a must-see in a student’s leisure time, while nature spotting hotspots such as the Horsetooth Falls or Rock formation are on the top of a tourist’s to-do list. Tours of brewing companies and museums are an excellent option for soaking up the local culture in a city where the sun shines often, and the people are just as warm.
