  About the Institution
Western Washington University is a public university in Bellingham, Washington. The northernmost University in the contiguous United States, WWU was founded in 1893, but it officially became a university in 1977.

Around 150-200 international students from over 35 countries attend Western Washington University annually. Popular degree programs at WWU include Business, Management, Marketing, Related Support Services, Social Sciences and more. WWU has been ranked the first regional public University in the Pacific Northwest for years.

There are two main libraries on campus: the Wilson Library and the Music Library. Over 1.5 million volumes can be located within the main library in addition to computer labs and other resources. The Wade King Student Recreation Center is a state-of-the-art facility with a rock climbing wall, swimming pool, fitness center and more sports amenities. Several sports facilities are available on campus, including the Viking Union Multipurpose Room, Carver Gymnasium and Robert S. Harrington Field. The Academic Technology Center and the Computer Science and Math Learning Center contain computer labs for student use, so the University fully prepares students to achieve their maximum potential. Multiple dining options are proudly presented across campus to cater to different tastes.

  Location
Bellingham in Washington is known as a student town as it is located within easy reach of the campus, and WWU attendees can find like-minded young people living within the city. The arts and music scene is always bustling with activity, and the town is within easy reach of Seattle and Vancouver if students want to expand their cultural horizons. The wider county is full of natural landmarks students love to explore, with the Cascade Mountains and the Salish Sea waters often featuring on ‘must-do’ lists. The Mount Baker Theatre is a nationally recognized venue for live music and performances, and the Spark museum has internationally recognized artefacts. Many students participate in the culture crawl, whereby numerous locations are ticked off as they explore the area as part of a group.

  Student Life
There are more than 200 student organizations for students to get involved with on campus to meet like-minded individuals and develop leadership skills. WWU is situated in the Pacific Northwest, so students can get stuck into fun outdoor recreation opportunities, such as skiing, hiking, and kayaking, when the weather aligns. If students want to indulge in cultural entertainment, art exhibitions and concerts are amongst the many live performances students can enjoy throughout the year. The University has 15 varsity sports teams that compete at the NCAA Division II level, with numerous intramural and club sports teams for students to join or simply cheer on from the sidelines. WWU also encourages students to volunteer in local community projects via the Center for Service-Learning. The campus is diverse and dedicated to allowing students to have fun while developing as a person and future graduates.

WWU offers several on-campus accommodation options. Various residence halls are available, such as the Birnam Wood, Edens Hall, Fairhaven Complex, Higginson Hall, and Buchanan Towers. There are shared common areas and single-to-triple occupancy rooms available within these halls. There are also various apartment complexes that typically offer a kitchen, living room and multiple bedrooms. If students require family housing options, they can find them off campus in the form of townhouses and apartments. Themed living communities such as the Rainbow Connection, the Outdoor Program House and the Substance-Free Community are all designed for students with similar interests.

Some international students choose to live off campus for more independence, but most first-year students live on campus.
