  About the Institution
The Universal College of Learning is an educational institution located in Palmerston North in New Zealand. The institute has a rich history dating back to 1892. Today it is a modern institute of Technology and Polytechnic. There is a huge focus on community and developing life skills at UCOL, achieved in part by their relationship-based teaching approach.

UCOL’s specialities include Health and Sciences, Applied Engineering and Trades, Humanities and Business. Nearly 6000 students attend the institute currently, with international students well-represented and given the opportunity to enhance their learning while developing in-demand skills.

The Universal College of Learning has a modern library offering quiet study rooms, a wealth of knowledge and a vast database of online resources. A range of modern learning and leisure facilities are available to enhance the student experience, from well-equipped classrooms to sports facilities.

Many state-of-the-art facilities have been designed to give you a hands-on learning experience, such as nursing simulation labs, training kitchens and restaurants, a regional trades and technology centre, photography studios and more.
  Location
The Universal College of Learning is situated in Palmerston North, a scenic area providing lots of leisure activities alongside a youthful feel. Aesthetically appealing, Palmerston North is densely populated and colloquially called the ‘Rose City’.

Precisely located in New Zealand’s North Island, the wider area is known as ‘the City of Sails’ as it is surrounded by bays and islands. To enjoy the local culture and explore the outdoors, you might want to visit some of their stunning national parks or spend an afternoon in the New Zealand Rugby Museum or Te Manawa art, science and history museum.
  Student Life
UCOL has campuses situated in UCOL Manawatú, UCOL Wairarapa, UCOL Whanganui and UCOL Horowhenua. Each campus has specialist wellbeing staff to provide support when needed, and student engagement coordinators to help students to achieve their academic goals or connect them with external services.

Campus life is marked by the community feel that brings together international students and there is international student support available alongside a specialist orientation document to refer to.

UCOL can help to arrange living in homestay accommodation but it does not operate any student accommodation. International students are recommended to find the best solution to facilitate their learning, including living in homestay accommodation. A homestay is where you stay with a New Zealand family so you can immerse yourself in Kiwi culture and enhance your understanding of their language and vernacular.

Flatting is the colloquial term given for staying in shared accommodation with friends. There is a Housing Advice Centre offering a free 24 hour accommodation listing service to help students find housing in Palmerston North.
