  About the Institution
Whitireia and WelTec joined forces in 2012 to provide the highest quality of education to students in Wellington. WelTec has a rich history as one of New Zealand’s oldest tertiary education institutions and the second-oldest in the capital city. Famed for their high student success rates and culturally diverse student body, a range of industry-led qualifications are available to help you succeed in your chosen career. Their mission is to put students first by providing them with the practical skills they need to thrive in the working world.

The Wellington Institute of Technology & Whitireia New Zealand (WelTec & Whitireia) is well-equipped with facilities for students to take advantage of during their studies. Since hands-on learning is prioritised, classrooms house relevant equipment and utilise the latest technology. Similarly, the library provides convenient access to a variety of resources and multimedia materials. A free bus runs on weekdays to transport students between campuses and there are prayer rooms provided in addition to a childcare centre.

  Location
Petone is known for being aesthetic, lined with trendy cafes and boutiques. The area is steeped in history, with many churches along the streets and Petone Wharf remaining one of the last remaining pieces of the area’s rich industrial past. The Hikoikoi Reserve is a park and walkway at the mouth of the Hutt River nearby that even features a golf course for people to enjoy some leisure time. The Petone Rotary Fair is an annual event that draws people from all over the world and gives all money raised to charity.

  Student Life
Students have the opportunity to make their voice heard by becoming a student representative as part of the ‘Student Connection’ body, becoming a student advocate or by participating in student surveys. The inclusion of LGBTQIA+ students is prioritised by Rainbow: a multi-campus student group and there are a range of groups and events students can take part in to enrich their university experience.

Homestay accommodation is recommended if it is your first time living in New Zealand. This option allows you to live with a local family so you can improve your English language skills, immerse yourself in the local food and social culture, plus live nearby to Whitireia and WelTec. Flatting is another option, whereby you rent a house with friends close to the campus.

The student services team is on-hand to provide support with finding the right accommodation prior to your arrival.
