  About the Institution
The University of Chester is one of the oldest higher education providers in the UK, having recently celebrated its 182nd year of teaching. With 15,000 students from 130 countries worldwide, Chester provides a vibrant, diverse and safe home for those travelling from overseas to study.

Based on the reviews of 41,000 students across 150 institutions, the university is currently placed at number two in the UK for international students (WhatUni? 2020).

Students can choose from more than 200 quality courses with all programmes having an emphasis on practical learning to enhance employment prospects. Lectures are taught at specialist sites in Chester, and nearby Shrewsbury and Warrington, which all boast state-of-the-art facilities.

The University of Chester offers international and merit-based scholarships at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Students are automatically considered for these scholarships during the submission of their application.

Graduate Entry Medicine at Chester
International students who wish to start their careers as outstanding doctors can apply for the University of Chester’s Graduate Entry Medicine programme, and can do so with any Bachelor’s degree.

The 4-year programme leads to the award of an MBChB degree, allowing students to register with the GMC and work in the UK and overseas.

This GMC-accredited programme is the quickest way of obtaining a primary medical qualification in the United Kingdom. As one of the newest medical schools in the United Kingdom, we are able to offer the highest level of student experience. Modest year sizes means that you will be taught in small groups and benefit from interacting with an enthusiastic and dedicated faculty.

  Location
Chester has a fantastic reputation for being a welcoming, vibrant and diverse location. It’s regularly ranked as one of the best places to live in the UK, and in 2019, was voted the second most student-friendly city in the UK.

Chester is perfectly located in the North West of England, bordered by North Wales, which is home to some of the most breath taking natural scenery in the UK. Major cities such as Liverpool and Manchester can be reached in less than an hour, with London just two-hours away by train.   Find on Map

  Student Life
Courses at the University of Chester have an emphasis on practical learning to enhance prospects via industry placements or overseas opportunities, ranging from five-weeks to one-year. Most undergraduate degrees include a work-based learning module in the second year. This module offers students the opportunity to complete a five-week work placement at a professional organisation in the UK or overseas.

Students on selected business programmes will have the opportunity to register for a four-year course, which includes a 12-month professional work placement.

Students at the University of Chester also have access to careers and employability services to help them get a job after graduating.

The University of Chester has a strong commitment to ensuring that students feel safe whilst studying at the university. The university has numerous services, procedures and interventions in place in order to ensure the safety of the university community. A dedicated team of porters provide 24-hour security service every day of the year along with CCTV on all campuses.

Students at the University of Chester have access to outstanding student support services. The International Arrivals team provide support right from the moment a student arrives in the UK by offering an airport pickup service. They also arrange specific International Welcome Programmes to help students get settled in the UK. This includes information on setting up a UK bank account, registering with a doctor, student visas and much more.

  Scholarships
(1) Chevening Scholarship
Nationality International
Chevening Scholarships enable outstanding emerging leaders from all over the world to pursue one-year master’s degrees in the UK. Whilst there is no ‘typical’ Chevening Scholar, we are looking for the kind of people who have the passion, ideas, and influence to provide the solutions and leadership needed to create a better future.

Because these scholarships are fully-funded (flights, accommodation, and course fees are all included), you are free to focus on achieving your professional goals and maximising the experience of a lifetime. You will live and study in the UK for a year, during which time you will develop professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture, and build lasting positive relationships with the UK. On completing your studies, you will leave the UK equipped with the knowledge and networks necessary to bring your own ideas to life.

This section of the website contains all of the information you need in order to successfully submit an application. We encourage you to review it fully in order to ensure that you have the best possible chance of being selected for an award.

Eligibility
To be eligible for a Chevening Scholarship you must:

Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory.

Return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after your award has ended.

Have completed all components of an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain entry onto a postgraduate programme at a UK university by the time you submit your application. This is typically equivalent to an upper second-class 2:1 honours degree in the UK but may be different depending on your course and university choice.

Have at least two years (equivalent to 2,800 hours) of work experience.

You are not eligible for a Chevening Scholarship if you:

Hold British or dual British citizenship (unless you are a citizen of a British Overseas Territory or hold BN(O) and are applying from Hong Kong).

Hold refugee status in a non-Chevening eligible country. Applicants who are citizens of a Chevening-eligible country and who hold refugee status in a Chevening-eligible country are eligible for a scholarship.

Are an employee, a former employee, or relative* of an employee of His Majesty’s Government, or have been within the last two years from the opening of Chevening applications (including the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, all British Embassies/High Commissions, the Home Office, the Ministry of Defence, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, the Department for International Trade and the UKVI), the British Council, a sponsoring UK university, or a staff member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.

Employees, former employees, or relatives* of an employee of Chevening Partner organisations are eligible to apply, but if the employment took place within the last two years, you cannot receive a Chevening Partner Award from the organisation from which you work, previously worked, or are affiliated with through relatives.

Have previously studied in the UK with funding from a UK Government-funded scholarship.

Having a master’s degree does not prevent you from applying for a Chevening Award to study for a second master’s degree in the UK, as long as you can clearly explain why it will help you fulfil your career plan to influence positive change in your home country.

The deadline to receive and submit at least one unconditional UK university offer is 17:00 BST (UK time) on 11 July 2024.
