  About the Institution
The University of Dayton is a private Catholic university in Dayton, Ohio. It was founded in 1850 by the Society of Mary as St Mary’s School for Boys, becoming a university and adopting its current name in 1920. It is the second-largest private university in the state and has around 12,000 students including international students from 65 countries around the world.

It ranks in the top 200 national universities in lists from Washington Monthly and US News & World Report as well as the top 250 from Forbes and the Wall Street Journal. The University of Dayton was the first University to establish an undergraduate program in human rights studies. Its Human Rights Center creates positive change through research, education and dialogue.

A research powerhouse, the University of Dayton is rated NO. 1 in the nation for materials engineering research and development and in Catholic university engineering research and development. The University of Dayton library system contains various libraries offering a variety of books, journals and digital materials. Since research is a key component of what makes the university so great, research services and other events are hosted here. A robotics lab, wind tunnel and clean room for microfabrication research are some of the research facilities present on campus that help to solidify their status as a research-intensive university. Plus, GE Aviation and Emerson built research facilities on campus, allowing students and faculty members to collaborate with professionals to discover solutions to real-life problems. Numerous student centers can be found on campus to seek out meeting rooms and communal areas.

Recreational facilities at the University of Dayton include a rock climbing wall, swimming pool, fitness center and sports fields. The university also provides performance spaces in the shape of a theater and concert venue.

  Location
The birthplace of aviation, Dayton offers a cultural heritage for students to become accustomed to during their time at university. Numerous historical sights can be seen around the city that narrate the story of the US air force. The arts scene is significant, and the architecture is stunning in areas such as the Oregon district or SunWatch Indian Village. The Second Street Market is Dayton's biggest and oldest public market, offering fresh food from around 50 vendors. It is next to the visually arresting RiverScape MetroPark, which contains one of the largest fountains in the world and is the perfect spot for cycling and kayaking by the river. Dayton is a sizable city with plenty of activity on offer away from campus.

  Student Life
The campus is bicycle friendly, with several bikeways and even a bike rental program present at the university to encourage students to travel by bike. Over 260 student clubs and organizations exist at the university currently, ensuring students can find their interest reflected in the choice of societies presented to them. The Campus Recreation facility runs several fitness and training programs to encourage students to live healthy and balanced lifestyles. Students can participate in visual arts workshops or perform as part of the Celebration of the Arts showcase.

The campus is a green university, a scenic place to study and make friends, having been named a ‘green school’ by the Princeton Review.

Around 85% of students live on campus or in the student neighborhood. The university is on hand to help students find the right housing solution for them, whether that’s a living-learning community or an apartment in the nearby area.

There are several residential complexes for first-year students: Marycrest complex, Founders hall and Stuart complex. Second-year students have four separate complexes to choose from as the university believes in students finding like-minded people to live and learn amongst. Upper-division and graduate & law housing are similarly diverse, housing hundreds of students who share common ground and residential facilities.
