  About the Institution
NorthTec is a post-secondary higher education provider in Northland, New Zealand. The provider has several campuses across Northland in Auckland, Whangarei, Kaikohe, Kaitaia, Kerikeri, and Dargaville.

Since opening in 1978, the institution has grown to offer courses at foundation, certificate, diploma and degree levels. Students can now access around 100 courses in subjects like Business, Computing and IT, Nursing, Teaching, Engineering and more.

Education at NorthTec is challenging, varied, and exciting. You can choose from a wide range of courses, from nursing to construction.

NorthTec’s Auckland International campus became the first centre in New Zealand to be approved by Immigration New Zealand for the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic)
Across its several campuses, NorthTec has plenty of resources that students can access. At the main Whangarei campus, students will find a library with course books, computer resources and study areas. The campus also has fitness and gym facilities at its health centre. Students can also socialise at The Apprentice Restaurant and student cafe and take in cultural events at the Geoff Wilson Art Gallery.

  Location
When students choose NorthTec, they can either stay in Auckland or Whang?rei. Each location has different activities and appeals depending on what students want from their time at the institution. First, Auckland has a bustling, diverse community, where students can access local restaurants, cafes and bars that are influenced by the 200-plus ethnic groups living in the city. There are also plenty of outdoor activities to experience in and outside Auckland. Horse riding, hiking, paddle boarding and skiing are just a few options available.

Whang?rei has more of a small-town feel, but there is still plenty to do and see in the city. Students can find authentic kiwi & Maori cultural experiences and explore the local beaches and nearby areas of natural beauty.

  Student Life
Students from various countries and continents attend NorthTec each year. Due to this, a diverse, welcoming and supportive culture is present across all campuses. International students can also receive help and guidance from highly qualified and trained staff.

The university also has an active Student Representation and Student Council. Students are encouraged to join these groups to become part of the institution’s community. In addition, these groups run and promote various student events throughout the year, which include welcome opportunities and off-campus trips.
NorthTec has no on-campus accommodation. But the institution can help students arrange homestay housing and shared accommodation with fellow students. Also, short-term housing options are on offer.

First, the provider has many vetted and checked local homestay families, who can provide a private room in their homes. Alternatively, students can rent a shart apartment or house with friends or coursemates. The Whang?rei campus also has short-stay accommodation options for students travelling into the city for lessons.
