  About the Institution
The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is a public land-grant research university in Los Angeles, California. Founded in 1881 as a teacher's college, it then developed into the southern branch of the California State Normal School.

Over 5,400 international students are attending UCLA from different nations all across the world.

UCLA has a comprehensive library system with twelve libraries containing over nine million books. It is so efficient that the library system often gains a top-spot ranking amongst the best academic research libraries in the USA.

Athletic facilities are easy to find on campus, with the Rose Bowl stadium providing a venue for football games and being one of the top-rated venues in America. Numerous concerts have been held at the Rose Bowl so students can find history and culture in one place. The Pauley Pavilion hosts basketball and volleyball games in this venue too. Various research centers for various fields are present on the University grounds, from engineering to medicine and beyond. The Royce Hall and the UCLA Center for the Art of Performance also host yearly performances that students can attend.

  Location
Los Angeles needs no introduction. Often referred to as the City of Angels or the birthplace of dreams, it is a popular destination for many young people. The sun shines here most of the time, and many films and music videos are filmed in this location. A multicultural area with a population of almost four million, this Californian destination has a relaxed feel emanating from its friendly inhabitants and the sunny beaches that line the shores. Students can tick off tourist hotspots to keep them entertained or refer to the free information drawn up by the government to guide international students on how to make the most of their time in the iconic LA. Santa Monica is the most famous beach nearby, and students can sample the preferred cuisine of the area when they are not dining in an on-campus cafe.

  Student Life
Few campuses have a richer history than the 419-acre Westwood grounds at the University of California, Los Angeles. The Janss Steps are where Martin Luther King gave his ‘Segregation Must Die’ speech, and the Powell Library saw the legendary novel Fahrenheit 451 come to life. The sixteen recreation centers have something different to offer, as do the 2,000+ student clubs in areas ranging from the Arts to Culture etc. The on-campus Arthur Ashe Student Health and Wellness Center provides various health and wellness services ranging from the expected women’s health or primary care to the most specialist acupuncture and physical therapy.

There are various on-campus accommodation options available for students at UCLA. Traditional residence halls offer double and triple rooms with communal bathrooms so students can meet like-minded individuals in a shared living space. Apartments and suites on the University campus grounds give students the use of private kitchen and bathroom amenities and unique interest floors for students with common interests. 98% of first-year students choose to live in residence halls on campus.

Some international students choose to live off-campus with friends or spouses. The UCLA Community Housing Office provides students a list of apartments, houses, and shared rooms near campus. Significantly for international students, a homestay program is also facilitated by the University, whereby students can live with a trusted local family to experience American culture and improve their English language skills.
