  About the Institution
The University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) is a renowned coastal university. It was founded in 1947 to support local residents with higher education opportunities. In 1969, the establishment joined the University of North Carolina System. Today, around 15,000 students attend the university and it is ranked among the top 100 public national universities by U.S. News & World Report in 2023.

Currently UNCW offers a range of baccalaureate, master's level and doctoral programs. It has courses in Business, Data Science, Information Systems, Marine Biology and Psychology. UNCW is also the only US university that has a Coastal Engineering degree program.

The University of North Carolina Wilmington campus has seen a $450 million investment in recent years. As a result, a state of the art University Film Center recently opened to provide a 4,000-square-foot soundstage and 80-seat movie theatre.In addition, the campus has the Center for Marine Science and MARBIONC. This area provides specialist equipment for Marine Biology and coastal studies courses.

Students can also use the Randall Library for book rental, computer and internet services, ebooks and course resources. For leisure activities, the.Student Recreation Cente provides a fitness centre, basketball courts, group training rooms and athletics facilities. Also on campus, students will find various food vendors and cafes like Wagoner Hall, Dub's Cafe and Port City Java.

  Location
UNCW’s campus is in Wilmington, a beachside town on the U.S. east coast. Wilmington is well known for its beautiful beaches and it has been voted as “America’s Best Riverfront. Here students will find various small beach communities along the coastline. In addition, the town has locally caught seafood, a trendy beer scene, and affordable living costs. Wilmington also has a welcoming community of young adults, college students, families, and retirees.

  Student Life
At UNCW, students are part of a campus culture focussing on diversity, globalisation, ethics and integrity. As a result, students from all backgrounds join a warm and welcoming environment. In addition, the university has many extracurricular activities, clubs and events to keep students entertained between studies.

The Campus Activities & Involvement Center (CAIC) runs various events, welcome programs and student organisations. Students with an interest in art, culture and film and TV and can find various events and clubs on campus. Also, the university has a thriving sports and athletics setup, with 10 teams for different sports. These include soccer, baseball, golf, tennis, basketball and swimming.

Students can choose from a variety of different housing options at UNCW. The university also has specific halls of residence for first-year students, sophomores and upperclassmen. Currently, undergraduate first-years can select a housing option from 11 different halls. These vary from shared rooms and facilities to private rooms and en-suite housing. Also, each halls of residence has laundry and vending facilities, WIFI and basic furnishings, like beds, wardrobes and study areas.
